Your survey preparation checklist
Use the checklist for the visit shown in your booking. Most visits take 1–2 hours. You do not need special paperwork for the survey to go ahead.
All survey types
Read what happens during the visit
For every visit
- Keep an adult available to provide access and answer property questions.
- Tell us about pets, locked gates, parking restrictions or firm timing limits.
- Check your booking confirmation for the survey type and any agreed access requirements.
- Tell us in advance if a room or area cannot be accessed safely.
ASHP and heat-loss preparation
- Allow access to every room included in the survey. Keep windows, external doors and radiators visible.
- Clear access to the boiler or heat source, hot-water cylinder, heating controls, consumer unit and electricity meter.
- Make the loft hatch safely reachable and tell us about restricted access or special ladder requirements.
- Unlock gates and clear likely outdoor-unit positions and the route back to the heating system.
- If an EPC is included, gather any insulation records, extension or improvement documents, and window or door certificates you already have.
- Have existing plans, an EPC and a recent energy bill available if convenient.
Solar and battery preparation
- Unlock relevant gates and allow safe views of the front, side and rear roof areas.
- Move vehicles or bins if they block a roof view, access route or possible scaffold position.
- Clear access to the electricity meter, service head and consumer unit so equipment and labels can be photographed.
- Make the loft hatch and possible inverter, battery or gateway locations accessible where they are in scope.
- Show the surveyor any preferred or restricted cable routes and where the broadband router is located.
- Have a recent electricity bill or annual usage figure available if convenient.
Only prepare areas that can be accessed safely. Do not remove electrical covers or attempt unsafe loft or roof access. The surveyor confirms the booked scope and records any limitations on the day.
